Brookhaven Animal Shelter

News & Announcements

You will see us at fairs, parades, firehouses, and shopping malls promoting pet adoptions and distributing humane educational materials. At the Adoption Center we have at least four themed adoption events annually and we even have a free rabies vaccination clinic every year.

Please Help Ponyboy

Ponyboy arrived at the shelter severely injured by another dog. A severe laceration on his back required sutures. He was also affected by a skin condition called Demodectic Mange. Wounds to his front left leg were continually treated, but would not heal properly. Ponyboy had large amounts of fragmented bone removed. An additional six follow up surgeries were required to remove dead and unviable tissue. After the third surgery, a special test was performed to find what antibiotics worked best to help Ponyboy heal. However, his incision would not heal. Exhausting all of our options, Ponyboy was
required to have his leg amputated. He is now doing well and adjusting to having only three legs. Each day he seems to get stronger and stronger.   Ponyboy has been placed in a foster home until we can find just the right home for him. If you are interested in adopting Ponyboy, please Send an email to
animalshelter@brookhaven.orgIf you would like to help some of Ponyboy's friends at the shelter, you can make a donation to our Help the Animals Fund, please click on the Donate Now box.
