News & Announcements

You will see us at fairs, parades, firehouses, and shopping malls promoting pet adoptions and distributing humane educational materials. At the Adoption Center we have at least four themed adoption events annually and we even have a free rabies vaccination clinic every year.

Poppa
Hello, my name is Poppa.

On Christmas Eve 2005, I became an orphan when I arrived at the Brookhaven Animal Shelter & Adoption Center. I was very scared and frightened. The shelter staff did their best to comfort and welcome me into my temporary home. Now after being at the shelter, I feel happy and playful. Each day, people walk through the shelter looking for a dog to adopt. I feel sad that they never seem to want me. I think it has something to do with my eyes. You see I was born with oversized skin tabs on both eyes. The shelter staff has called it "Cherry Eye".

Although it is not harmful to me, many potential adopters seem to shy away because my eyes are always red and swollen. So many people have overlooked and passed me by. The Shelter is trying to give me a chance at a new life, by correcting my eyes with surgery. However, this is an expensive surgery. Can you help me by donating to the Brookhaven Animal Shelter & Adoption Center's "Help the Animals Fund"?

This will help with my surgery cost as well as many of my other friends who are sick and injured. Who knows maybe I will even find someone to love and offer to adopt me. Maybe by this Christmas Eve, I will find a family who will love and keep me forever!

APRIL 2007 -UPDATE:  POPPA HAS FOUND A HOME AND WONDERFUL FAMILY!
